Floor Moisture
Controlling Moisture from Within for Reliable Flooring and Coating Performance
Moisture-related failures are among the most common issues under flooring, adhesives, and coatings. The long-term threat is vapor moving up through the slab. At the bond line it can condense and act as a bond breaker — adhesive failure, blistering, repairs.
Drying is not curing
Drying - surface moisture low enough to install flooring or coatings.
Curing - ongoing cement hydration that builds strength.
SCP’s reaction fills capillaries and bleed-water channels. That cuts vapor movement from within while leaving internal moisture for curing. The surface can reach install conditions sooner — often in as little as 14 days — without giving up durability.
What this means
By improving concrete from within, SCP technology helps deliver:
Significantly reduced water vapor transmission (typically 70–80% compared to untreated concrete)
Lower risk of adhesive failure and blistering
Earlier install of moisture-sensitive finishes
Compatible with flooring, adhesives, and coatings meant for bare concrete
New slabs and existing concrete
Typical applications
Slabs receiving resilient, carpet, tile, or wood
Healthcare, education, commercial with tight schedules
Existing concrete requiring moisture mitigation prior to resurfacing or coating
Projects where a topical moisture barrier is a poor fit

SCP 327 — Moisture management for concrete that will receive flooring
Important considerations
While SCP significantly improves durability from within, it is not a surface-applied membrane. Joints, cracks, and penetrations require separate treatment. SCP also does not replace code-required under-slab vapor retarders.
For best results, proper surface preparation on existing concrete is recommended to ensure effective penetration.
Standard MVER (ASTM F1869) and in-situ RH (ASTM F2170) were written for untreated concrete and can mislead on SCP-treated slabs. SCP does not require moisture testing for its own performance warranty.
